As a future science teacher, I designed this quiz to help me gain an understanding of which specific stages of mitosis my students are having trouble with. Students will be required to take this quiz after I teach them a lesson on the process of cell division, known as Mitosis. They will take this quiz while in my classroom so I can monitor them and make sure they are completing it on their own.
This quiz asks questions about the major key processes that take place during each stage of mitosis. It includes all the points I would like them to know after teaching my lesson on mitosis. It is a good tool to use because students are graded and can see their score immediately after they click done. This is helpful because not only does it show me how much my students understand, but it also shows each student how they are doing with understanding the concept. If they score low, they know that they need more practice and to study more. The last question asks students to score their level of understanding on each stage of mitosis. This is helpful because it will show me how comfortable everyone is with specific stages, so I will know what to focus on when reviewing the quiz.
This quiz is not anonymous so I will be able to assess each student on their personal understanding about cell division and the process of mitosis. After administering the mitosis quiz, I will review the class results as a whole and observe any patterns of specific questions that multiple students are getting wrong. Afterwards, I will go over the entire quiz with my class and dedicate more time to explain the questions that multiple students got wrong as well as the questions that feel less confident in.
